Lately I’ve been into painting and doing abstract art, something I’ve never been into before…
so a few weeks ago I really wanted to paint a picture for a women who truely inspires me

before I started I prayed for awhile that God would just speak to her in this final painting
and prayer works! and it was so amazing to hear from her what she felt the painting was about
I simply painted the main things that come to mind when I think of her…
and she interpreted a women and labour
the things on the left were all the bad things being pushed away and the light all around her was the good
and the only way she was handling anything was because the trinity was pushing/supporting her (the triangle in the legs)
to finish it all off it reminded her of her daughter, whos birthday was that exact same day

Thank God for inspiration
and people he places in our lives who inspire us

Take Notice
Posted on February 4, 2008 by emily

Do you ever take the time to notice things? The things that everyday come and go and pass us by…

Like the sunrise, or the stars, a snow fall, a child drawing… they don’t seem to be much eh?
But God created these things for us
to notice and to stand in awe of Him
I’ve been taking time to just notice and be present in things lately and its a lovely feeling
So I think you should take some time to notice too
Stop and slow down to see God’s presence in things

Calling for Igniters 2008-2009

Posted on February 4, 2008 by emily

“Meanwhile our churches are concerned with fundraising, beautiful buildings, large numbers, comforting sermons from highly qualified preachers, while they display indifference to the poor and to the pariahs of society - drunks, whores, homosexuals, the poor, the insane, and the lonely. Jesus himself would find no place in our all-too-respectable churches, for he did not come to help the rightous but to bring sinners to repentance. Our churches are not equipped to do that sort of thing”. Want to get equipped?

Ignite is an intense program
If you’ve been wondering what you should do or go in life, I would recommend coming here and discovering that call
I’ve never learned so much about myself, and about God then here in this place
614 is the most accepting community I’ve ever been in
People here just genuinely care about your whole self, and help you to grow into the full person your capable of being in Christ
Your not just another face sitting in the pews Sunday morning…

ahhh….daily devotions
Posted on September 13, 2007 by fiona

One thing that we do on Ignite is that we commit to starting each day with one hour of time with God. I love that this is part of my job! And I love that I get to encourage the team in this. It’s a discipline, so sometimes it can be hard to get into a routine as such. But the thing is, it doesn’t take long, when you are doing it properly, to get to the point where that hour isn’t enough.
However, twice a week, we cut that hour in half to do devotions together. Emily made us get up extra early this morning, so we could walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise. I love the sun and numerous times in my life, the sun and the son have been used as analogies to speak powerfully to me. i didn’t want to move. It was a beautiful thing. to sit in the sun. to sit in the son. I was thinking about verses in the bible where God tells us to stay with him. He told Moses to stay with him on the mountain, or when Jesus asked his disciples to stay with him. And all throughout the bible, God tells us to worship him (and him only).
I am thankful that God is faithful. When we come to him and sit before him, he is always there, waiting to spend as much time with us as we will offer him.

I LOVE DAILY DEVOTIONS!

New Team up and Boating
Posted on September 12, 2007 by emily

Hey All,

So the Ignite Team 2007-2008 is up and Boating
We’ve been at the Salvation Army’s Jackson’s Point for about a week and half now…
Our team is really sweet! We all mesh together quite well, and I’m loving getting to know everyone and what we all have to offer.

We’re in some intense training right now getting us prepared spirituality, mentally, and physically to enter into Regent Park next month.

I’m getting antsy though…
last night we were in Regent for a squads meeting, and afterwards we went on a walk through cabbage town, which I absolutely loved! and I didn’t want it to end - cause that meant back up to camp…

This week we’re having some amazing bible training from Doctor Major Bruce Power, he’s a very intelligent God filled man! So we’re all just soaking that in…

until next time

NY trip
Posted on May 23, 2007 by kingsley

Hi it as been along since you all have not heard anything from me. Well i am still here the trip to new york was great just hanging out with those guys and doing what they do was fun. Unfortunately it was not my first time in new york but my first time spending a week at the training college, and not my first time touring manatthan.Just to see how God can use different people from all walks of life to do his work always amazes me including young people. We yeild to the calling project 117 and the ignite team formed a great bond that saturday in in the city during the amazing race we worked in sync they listened to us and we did like wise.just to say i really enjoyed my time and love you guys.To my team members steph, grace and leader fiona thanks for the week also heather and sean the project 117 crew one love from the jamaican may god bless you all.

i heart ny

what could you expect but PURE LIES from a kid nicknamed BABY SUNSHINE. c’mon. Sean’s favourite part of the trip was definitely having me around, so he could hurl unsolicited and un-called-for insults at me (which you all got a taste of on this very blog!) without any risk of physical injury. cuz, yea, my teammates… they’re just not as contained as i am. i’m the gentle yogie of the bunch. and baby sunshine exploits that.

so yes, new york, new york, how i love thee, let me count the ways. seriously. nyc has been my favourite city since i was 16, and i can’t even really explain why, because the first time i visited nyc was when i was 18 (not counting that time when i was like 10 years old on a bus tour and we drove through harlem and the tour guide told us we were in a “scary place”). i probably developed a fondness for it from watching Friends episodes, reading Bukowski poems and other novels set in NYC. well, this fondness has only grown over the years, with more visits to the big apple, and i still dream about living in greenwich village in a small apartment with a fire escape, like i did when i was 16. but now i’m getting off track, because as previous bloggers have noted, we actually spent most of our week in suffern NY, about an hour outside of NYC.

the one bad thing about NYC though is the pollution, and how my pores always feel like they’re clogged real bad (say it like napoleon dynamite… “my lips hurt real bad”… hahaha classic) and my snot comes out black at the end of the day.

file that under the “needed to know” category.

so after living with so many (ahem two) australians for nine months, i have picked up a lot of their slang, and this was noted by all on this trip. anyway, at this point in my blog i would like to borrow one of steph’s signature terms: DEAD-SET LEGENDS. and i would like to apply that term to our hosts for the week. they were all most definitely legendary. thoughtful and accomodating. they didn’t spring surprise “you’re preaching tomorrow!” or “you’re sharing your testimony tonight!” responsibilities on us. (although that happened on our last trip and that was an awesome trip too.) they took good care of us and gave us gifties. a great bunch.

my highlights of the week were definitely hanging out with the folks at Newark, and lenox house, where one of the boys, who evidently had had little contact with asians outside of, say, a chinese-food restaurant context, asked me whether i was “asian.” when i confirmed that indeed i was, he said, “I knew it! i knew you weren’t chinese!” which drew uproarious laughter from all his mates. i tried to explain that china was a country in asia, kinda like new york is a state in America. it was funny. a lot of my experiences this past week reminded me that my asian-ness can serve as a strategic “bridge” colour/ culture between the black-white divide, and that God can use me in unique ways in the work of reconciliation simply because i am asian.

they had this awesome mango pineapple vinaigrette that they served at the training college. i miss it.

well i’ll try to write more later, but now it’s time to hit the sack, 4:50am wake-up for me and steph tomorrow!
